What this map shows
This map shows, one point per place, cafés serving matcha or Japanese tea, tea shops and tea fields listed on OpenStreetMap, a map anyone can edit. You can see where to drink or buy tea and where it is grown (where tea fields cluster) on one map.
At country level, nearby places are grouped into numbered circles that split up as you zoom in. Choose a prefecture to see a list. Tap a shop for the address and official website where listed, a Google Maps search link and the OpenStreetMap page it comes from.
Questions and answers
Is every place on the map?
No. Only places and tea fields listed on OpenStreetMap are shown, and OpenStreetMap does not list every place in Japan. Some places that have closed may still be listed.
How current is the data?
It is fetched again from OpenStreetMap once a month. The date of the data is shown at the bottom of the page and in each popup.
This map shows places on OpenStreetMap, a map anyone can edit, tagged with the cuisine matcha, Japanese tea or tea, or whose names include the Japanese words for matcha, Japanese tea (nihoncha) or tea house (saryo); tea shops (shop=tea); and fields tagged as tea fields.
OpenStreetMap does not list every shop or tea field in Japan. Some tea shops do not serve matcha, and some places that have closed may still be listed. Please check with the place before you go. Tea fields are private land: please do not walk into the fields.
Only the name, location, type and prefecture of each place are shown, plus the address and official website when they are listed on OpenStreetMap. Phone numbers, social media accounts and operators are not included. The Google Maps link searches Google Maps for the name and address. The prefecture is assigned from the location and may be wrong near prefecture borders.
If a place is wrong or missing, fixing it on OpenStreetMap will bring the change into this map at the next monthly update.
