An accident in which someone died within 24 hours (the National Police Agency's definition). Statistics that count deaths within 30 days give different numbers.
So that the people who died cannot be identified, the map shows only the year and a four-hour time band, and locations are blurred to about 100 m.
Once a year, after the National Police Agency publishes the previous year's accident data.
In the 7 years from 2019 to 2025, Hyogo had 776 fatal accidents and 792 deaths (4.1% of Japan). 51% happened at night (Japan: 48%), and 265 killed a pedestrian. The worst year was 2019, with 135.
By type, 33% were vehicles hitting pedestrians, 33% were collisions between vehicles, 32% were single-vehicle accidents (Japan: 35%, 36%, 28%). The share of single-vehicle accidents is 5 points higher than in Japan as a whole. The most common place was "Intersection" (35%), and 9% happened in rain, snow or fog (Japan: 12%).
