From September to October 2026, young people, students and trade unions held protests across Europe. The themes differ by country: the cost of living and education in France and Italy, housing in Spain and Portugal, education in Greece, education and budget cuts in Belgium, protests against the government in Albania, and in Serbia a student movement that began after the November 2024 collapse of the Novi Sad station canopy (16 dead), ahead of the parliamentary election on 25 October. El País counted at least 177 protests in 12 countries between 15 September and 23 October.
This map shows protests, clashes and damage that have already happened, one place at a time, with the date, location and source (colours show the country). France has its own detailed map, so here only the number of records per major city is shown, with links to the France map. Crowd and arrest figures are given with the body that announced them and the date.
What this map shows
Colours show the country. Tap a point for the date, place, what happened and sources.
Overlapping points are grouped into numbered circles; zoom in to separate them.
France is shown as counts for 12 major cities only (see the France map for each site).
Only things that have already happened are shown. Ongoing camps and the times or places of upcoming rallies or strikes are not listed.
Crowd and arrest figures are given with the body that announced them and the date. Where organisers and authorities differ, both are given.
